How to Make A “Chalkboard Painted” Jack-O-Lantern

Do you want a toothy grin or spooky scowl?  A wink or slanted eyes?  Scary or surprised? With so many different choices it’s hard to choose what face your Halloween jack-o-lantern will wear this year!    Wouldn’t it be great if your jack-o-lantern could change according to your mood?  Why not do something different this year and make a chalkboard painted pumpkin!  It’s really simple to do and your kids can help too.

This is what you will need:

– Pumpkin

– Chalkboard Paint

– Paint Brush

– Wet Cloth

– Chalk

– Your Imagination

Step 1: Take a wet cloth and clean your pumpkin.

Step 2: Paint your pumpkin with the chalkboard paint.

Step 3: Let the pumpkin dry for 6 hours and then apply a second coat of paint.

Step 4: Let the paint completely dry and set for 24 hours.

Step 5: Rub chalk all over the pumpkin.  Then use a cloth to rub off the chalk.

Now your chalkboard pumpkin is ready!

Step 6: Take turns with your kids drawing faces on your pumpkin.

Some benefits of a chalkboard pumpkin versus a normal pumpkin:

1.  There are no knifes or pumpkin seeds involved.

2.  You don’t have to worry about a stinky/moldy jack-o-lantern.  A chalkboard painted pumpkin will last much longer.

3.  No bugs or geckos will make their home inside your jack-o-lantern.

4.  It provides countless hours of fun and entertainment for the whole family.  Even the young ones can participate.

Note:  Chalkboard paint is available at Spotlight, Art Friend and many other arts & crafts stores in Singapore.
